What Would You Have Done #2 – by Jeff

Some of these stories are “no brainers” to most but remember they are all based on TRUE STORIES.

It’s a Friday evening and a twenty something year old girl is being confined in her house by her boyfriend. He is yelling at her and becoming extremely violent. As the hours pass she is becoming more frightened. She never thought “he would do this”.

Finally, in the early morning hours, he leaves but before he does he tells her that he’s coming back and she better be there. As frightened as she is she finds the courage to call the police and when they arrive, she tells them what happened and that her boyfriend will be back anytime. When the police officer tells her that he will wait for the boyfriend to come back the girl says that she doesn’t want anything to happen to him. She just wants the police officer to stay while she gets some clothes so she can leave.

What would you do?

Now I would let the police officer stay and confront the boyfriend. But I do understand the thought process of “never thought he would do this” and also wanting to believe that “he’s sorry and it will never happen again.” I’m also starting to understand the frustration that some police officers have when the victim “doesn’t want anything to happen to him”. Until you’ve been in that situation I don’t think you can truly understand the power that boyfriend has over the victim. Realizing that the police can actually help in this situation, knowing that there are places to turn for help and moving on to a happier life is a huge and difficult step to take.

go to friend or relatives house, call 911 and explain to dispatcher that he said he would return to her apt. Obviously he would be mad if he returns and police are there. He hasn’t done anything yet, so he would probably be warned. If he returns after fact, be ready with a gun, because it will be your life or his.
